Getting PublicityIf you have a paper soon to be published, a research project newly under way, a grant award you wish the community to know about, an event you want people to attend or any other publicity need, contact the Office of Communication & Public Affairs. Once we’re aware of your needs, we can devise a strategy to share the information with the appropriate audiences. This may include alerting the media as well as coverage in the publications we produce for the Stanford community: Medical Center Report and Stanford Medicine magazine. Our editorial staff is divided along a “beat” system, with writers assigned to specific topical areas. If you don’t know which writer covers your area, call our main number at 723-6911 or contact:
Our writers and media-relations specialists will involve you throughout the process to ensure the most accurate representation of your work. You also will have an opportunity to review the news release or story and suggest changes before distribution. If your publicity comes in the form or radio or TV coverage, we will assist through every step of the process to ensure that the shoot or interview goes smoothly. The sooner we know about your communication needs, the better. With advance lead-time, we can ensure that our efforts are as effective and varied as possible. Also, contact us upon learning that a paper of yours has been accepted to a journal rather than waiting for a publication date. Our office has an unparalleled record of adhering to and honoring the news embargoes imposed by scientific journals. |
